By G. Rogers My first day started with the rising Guatemalan sun over the rich green mountains and ended up being filled with children, faith, hope and poverty. While hope and poverty are rarely married, today was one of those special days.

Our main event of the day was to share food and prayers with some of the local village residents. Many of their homes had dirt floors, shoddy roofs and physically sick inhabitants. We would share food, talk with them, pray with them and thank them for having us in their homes.

On our third or fourth home we began to wrap up by thanking our host for allowing us into her home, a home that was just as impoverished as the first 2 or 3, when she became animated in the telling of how grateful she was to have had parents who enabled her to live in her house.

She gave me a life lesson in her appreciation of her dirt floor house. She didn't need great possessions to be thankful for but she did need great thankfulness for the things she had. I will never forget her message.
