7/6/17: Amusement Park

Updated: Apr 30, 2018

Today we went to an amusement park in Guatemala City. Going into the day, I was not sure what to expect, specifically what a Guatemalan amusement park was like. I was pleasantly surprised the day was super fun and one of the most exciting days of the week. It made me so happy to see the bright smiles on the kids’ faces while they were on the rides. As well, it was also very fun for me and I made many new Guatemalan friends. I spent the whole morning with an 11 year old girl named Vanessa. I was very surprised that she went on so many of the huge and scary rides yet she was not scared at all. After lunch, I met two boys named Christano and Louis. Christano was holding my hand the whole time and it was funny because I kept being twisted in many different ways. We went to the zoo together and saw many different animals. After the zoo, I bought the boys ice cream, which made them very happy. They later asked if they could have more ice cream but I had to say no. Finally, I went on rides with several different girls. One ride in particular was a little boat like thing that spun around while other people were squirting water at us. The kids loved this ride, in fact, they asked me to do this ride with them 3 more times. Because of this, I was completely soaked by the end of the day. Overall, the day showed me how much fun volunteering and helping people can be. In addition, that God allows happiness, joy and fun for everyone.  -----Lauren Gragg
